Flynn Battaglia principal Lauren Kaufmann attended this year's AIA National Conference in Washington, D.C. and returned with an invigorated enthusiasm for the discipline and practice of architecture. Lauren attended several sessions relevant to Flynn Battaglia's current body of work, including a two-part symposium on Federal Historic Tax Credits delivered by the National Park Service, a panel on practice management led by the great Carol Ross Barney, FAIA, HASLA, and multiple Small Firm Exchange events, which provided guidance, resources, and support for the many challenges faced by smaller architectural firms.
In addition to the AIA conference sessions and tours of D.C.'s historic and memorable buildings, Lauren spent time connecting with and learning from fellow practitioners, including Robert Sit, AIA who shared valuable insights about the evolution of his firm site design group out of Chicago. Lauren was especially inspired by the panel featuring Alyson Steele, FAIA, LEED AP, Principal of Quinn Evans (AIA 2024 Firm of the Year); Angela Watson, FAIA, LEED AP, President and CEO of Shepley Bulfinch; Carol Rickard-Brideau, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP BD+C, WELL AP, CEO of Little; and Tricia Esser, CEO of ktgy. These leading women in the field communicated their unique journeys and lessons learned as heads of exceptional architectural firms.
Lauren's new connections and resources made at the AIA National Conference will help shape the future and direction of Flynn Battaglia Architects as the firm continues to grow under her leadership.
