UB Clark Hall
Addition for Wellness
& Recreation

Ongoing

Clark Hall, located on the University at Buffalo’s South Campus, was designed by E.B. Green and completed in 1937. The building houses the Campus’ main athletic facility, workout centers, courts, and a five-lane swimming pool. Clark Hall has immense historic value and, along with other core campus structures, comprises an identified Historic District. The structure is clad with limestone from local quarries and features large archtop windows overlooking the quad and five elaborate entrances. The renovation project, led by design teams from Diamond Schmitt Architects and Flynn Battaglia, will include an addition to the North side to accommodate Health & Wellness offices, expanded athletic facilities on the second floor, improved interior traffic circulation, and a new energy hub that will serve other buildings in the future.

FBA will be primarily responsible for maintaining the historic character of the exterior, which includes facades of rough-cut coursed limestone and entrances that have stone surrounds with broken arched pediments and sculpted friezes of athletes by Charles Cary Rumsey.
