The new 14,000 square foot Campus and Community Children's Center is located at the western edge of the State University of New York at Fredonia campus. The Children's Center houses Infant through Pre-School age children. The Center has been designed as a single-story facility, accessible at grade. The entrance to the building is on a north-south axis with the Classroom Wing located to the east and the Gross Motor Skills and Support Spaces to the west. The west side is a one-story, high-bay area that anchors the building. Light monitors have been located in enlarged areas of the corridor to allow natural light into the interior. Each Classroom is adjacent to an Observation Room, as this is a teaching facility, and has direct access to the outdoor play areas. The windows have been designed at different heights to allow views to the exterior for children of any height. Landscape features have been added to the Play Yard to engage the children. To reduce the impact the building will have on its natural environment, most mature trees on the site remain as assets to the new building's landscape.
