Ronald J. Battaglia, FAIA
Managing Principal

Mr. Battaglia is the Managing Principal of Flynn Battaglia Architects, responsible for the overall firm management and the successful integration of finance, talent management, and operations of the firm. On a project level, he often participates in design charrettes and is a resource available to all project teams. He is responsible for agreements engaging the firm’s clients and consultants, and other contractual matters involving firm resources. Mr. Battaglia's design approach engages the client and user in a discovery process emphasizing opportunity, aesthetics, and responsibility.
In three decades of professional practice, Ronald Battaglia has served in a leadership role for a wide variety of project utilizing his experience and knowledge in design, management, planning and project delivery. His expertise and service orientation results in successful projects for colleges/universities, k-12 education, historic preservation, housing, community facilities and health care. He is experienced in coordinating the activities of owners, complex architectural/engineering teams, financiers, politicians, regulatory agencies, contractors and construction managers. Mr. Battaglia applies this management expertise with his knowledge of planning and design to the practice of architecture to facilitate the building process and assure success. Most recently he has developed partnerships with program management specialists to provide complete one-stop project delivery services for public education clients.
He received his architectural degree from the University of Detroit and advanced study Certificates in Project Management from the Simon School of Business at the University of Rochester and in Design Firm Management from Harvard University Graduate School of Design. Elevated to the College of Fellows for advancing the science and art of planning and building in 1995, he has received numerous state, regional, and national awards for design excellence, and innovative use of building materials. His writings and work have been featured in national and international periodicals as well as a number of books.
In addition to his strong interest in design, Mr. Battaglia is equally interested in the business and advancement of the profession. He has been a staunch advocate for emerging professionals and the involvement of architects in their communities. Under his leadership as Vice-President – Community (2006) of The American Institute of Architects, the AIA launched an extensive community outreach program called AIA150 which will provide volunteer services by architects to their communities throughout the Country. With equal passion he works to improve the lives of emerging professionals through mentor programs and improvement to the internship (IDP) and licensing processes.

Peter T. Flynn, AIA
Design Principal

Mr. Flynn is the Design Principal at Flynn Battaglia Architects, responsible for design direction of all the firm's projects, and its marketing and public relations activities. He has successfully worked for two decades with his friend and partner Ron Battaglia and together their collaborative efforts and complementary skills have resulted in projects noted for design excellence and innovative development strategies. Mr. Flynn's design approach emphasizes an open process engaging the client and user in the development of a design vision and concept which maximizes opportunity, aesthetics and functionality.
In over 37 years of professional practice, Mr. Flynn has provided leadership capitalizing on his expertise in design, management and preservation planning. He has been involved in a wide variety of project types with concentration in work for educational institutions, and community organizations. His vision, creativity and design skills have resulted in successful educational facilities, neighborhood plans, adaptive reuse and restoration of historic buildings, museums and housing. He has in-depth knowledge of planning and development as well as research, financial analysis, feasibility studies, historic structure reports and land use planning.
Among numerous community planning and design awards, Mr. Flynn's projects have been recognized by national, state and local awards including a National Historic Preservation Award, a design excellence award from AIA New York State and a President's Award from the Buffalo/Western New York Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. His design for Akwe:kon at Cornell University is featured by the University in their view book for incoming students.
Mr. Flynn has participated and presented at various national conferences including the Association for Preservation Technology, the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Preservation League of New York State. Most recently he participated on a panel which recommended unique solutions to community preservation problems in upstate New York.
Mr. Flynn is a member of the American Institute of Architects and the Association for Preservation Technology. He is involved in numerous community activities and gives freely of his time in service to the organizations as a board member, fund raiser and project facilitator. He is licensed to practice architecture in New York.
Mr. Flynn studied architecture, economics and social sciences and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Cornell University and a Master of Architecture Degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo, School of Architecture and Environmental Design. He has a Certificate in Historic Preservation from Harvard University Graduate School of Design.

Mark J. Wendel, AIA, LEED
Associate Principal/Project Manager
Bachelor of Architecture: University of Notre Dame
With over twelve years of professional experience, Mr. Wendel has been involved through all phases of an architectural project, from concept through construction administration. His project experience has varied from university housing and community facilities, to historic preservation and existing structure reports. Mr. Wendel has recently focused his efforts on project management. He is also involved with the coordination of office Interns and their development through the IDP program.
